At midnight, the large precipitation shield from a major winter storm continued to spread north across Wisconsin. The northern edge of the precipitation extended from near Eagle River to Iron Mountain. The precipitation will continue to surge north, spreading across the remainder of northern Wisconsin by 130 am. The northern portion of the precipitation shield was falling as snow, which was heavy at times. Meanwhile farther south, temperatures were warmer over central and east-central Wisconsin, resulting in rain in these areas. The rain/snow line extended from near Marshfield to Wittenberg to Oconto to Crivitz. The rain/snow line is expected to slowly advance northwest during the next few hours. Areas in central and east-central Wisconsin that receive rain could see some ponding of water in low spots on roads, especially in urban areas where storm sewer grates may be obstructed by remaining leaves. Travel conditions in areas receiving snow will continue to deteriorate overnight. Gusty northeast winds are also expected to develop in these areas, resulting in some blowing and drifting of the snow as well. Anyone traveling across northern Wisconsin tonight should use extra caution, and allow for a considerably slower than normal trip. $$ Skowronski
