A strengthening low pressure system centered near Lone Rock at 400 am was producing widespread precipitation across Wisconsin. The precipitation will continue through the early morning as the low tracks toward east-central Wisconsin. The precipitation was snow in the north and rain across east- central and portions of central Wisconsin where temperatures were a little warmer. At 400 am, the rain/snow line extended from near Marshfield to Menominee County to near Wausaukee. It is expected to remain nearly stationary for the next few hours before beginning to shift back to the southeast. Locations near the transition zone could also experience some sleet. In areas receiving snow, the snow will continue to be heavy at times. Snowfall rates exceeding 1 inch per hour are possible, especially through 600 am. Northeast winds will also continue to gradually increase in these areas, and will result in some blowing and drifting of the snow. Travel conditions were becoming difficult, and the morning commute is likely to be severely impacted by the snow. Be sure to use extra caution, and allow for considerably slower than normal travel times. Areas in central and east-central Wisconsin that receive rain could see some ponding of water in low spots on roads, especially in urban areas where storm sewer grates may be obstructed by remaining leaves. The steady heavy rain will diminish to scattered showers during the next several hours. The gauge reading at the mouth of the Fox River in Green Bay indicated that the level of the Bay had reached the point where lowland flooding was likely occurring along the western shore of the Bay. That will continue into mid-morning, but winds over the southern Bay will decrease after daybreak as the low pressure system nears the area, so flooding should begin to ease later this morning. $$ Skowronski
