An upper level disturbance is forecasted to move northeast from the eastern Pacific into the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles later this evening through Thanksgiving morning. Wintry weather associated with this disturbance is expected to impact holiday travel starting this evening through Thanksgiving morning. Precipitation type across the northwestern and western Panhandles is expected to start as snow before transition to a wintry mix overnight. Areas across the central and northeastern Panhandles will start as a wintry mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain along with rain before transitioning to more freezing rain and rain overnight. The southeast TX Panhandle should remain mostly rain with a period of wintry mix possible. Eventually as go into the afternoon hours on Thanksgiving, residual precipitation that falls should be rain as temperatures will be above freezing. At this time, snow totals of 1 to 2 inches is possible across the favored western and northwestern combined Panhandles. Total ice accumulations of a trace to a couple hundreths of an inch is currently forecasted for most of the central and northeastern combined Panhandles. If warmer air aloft plays a bigger role in the precipitation type, more rainfall vs. wintry precipitation could occur. Please continue to monitor the forecast from the National Weather Service in Amarillo for the latest information regarding this developing winter weather system. $$
