AND PORTIONS OF CENTRAL WISCONSIN... A strengthening low pressure system centered near Montello at 600 am was produce widespread precipitation across central and northern Wisconsin this morning. The precipitation will continue through mid-morning as the low tracks over the Bay of Green Bay. Heavy snow continued to fall across north-central and far northeast Wisconsin. Snowfall rates will continue to exceeding 1 inch per hour at times through 900 am, then a gradual decrease in snow intensity is expected. Northeast winds will continue to gradually increase in these areas, and will result in some blowing and drifting of the snow. The morning commute in this area will be severely impacted by the snow. Be sure to use extra caution, and allow for considerably slower than normal travel times. At 600 am, the rain/snow line extended from near Marshfield to Menominee County to near Wausaukee. Locations near the transition zone could also experience some sleet. Colder air aloft will begin pushing back into central Wisconsin now that the storm center was passing off to the east. This will cause the rain across southeast Wood and much of Portage Counties to change back to snow in the next couple hours. A widespread rainfall of between 1/2 inch and 1 inch from central into east-central Wisconsin could result in some ponding of water in low spots on roads. The steady heavy rain will diminish to scattered showers during the next several hours. The gauge reading at the mouth of the Fox River in Green Bay indicated that the level of the Bay had reached the point where lowland flooding was likely occurring along the western shore of the Bay. That will continue into mid-morning, but winds over the southern Bay were beginning to decrease now that the low pressure system was nearing the area. So the flooding should begin to ease by mid-morning. $$ Skowronski
