The initial band of precipitation surging out ahead of a strong storm system tracking toward the area from the Plains will continue across the area this morning. The precipitation will fall primarily as snow, though temperatures near the shores of the Lake and Bay may be just warm enough for a mix of rain and snow. Snowfall accumulations will generally be light, with up to an inch possible in most areas. Although the snow will be light, it will result in slippery roads and sidewalks. Anyone traveling this morning should plan to need a little extra travel time to reach their destination. The precipitation band is expected to weaken during the middle to late morning. As it does, the snow could transition to light freezing drizzle. This is most likely to occur across central and east-central Wisconsin. Although the lingering precipitation will be light, the freezing drizzle could result in icy spots developing on roads. Anyone traveling in a zone from around Wausau and Merrill to Marshfield and Stevens Point to the Wautoma and Oshkosh areas should be prepared for the possibility of icy spots on the roads. Much heavier precipitation associated with the main storm system will overspread the area during the afternoon. Travel conditions will likely deteriorate substantially during the late afternoon and evening. $$ Skowronski
